I’m Finally Going To See The Police ~ I Hope!

Filed under: Gift Ideas, music, PayPerPost — admin @ 7:12 pm

I was either 15 or 16 and in high school (this was the 80’s). My mom was going to let me go to see The Police in concert. Back then, concerts only came to the city that was one and a half ours drive away from us. It was a big deal to get to go to one. A parent usually had to be involved. My sister, who was 14 years older than me (and was married with two kids) loved The Police (Sting in particular) was going to take my boyfriend and I to the show. On the day of the show, I was so sick with a sore throat and some kind of cold. My mom would not let me go to the show (no matter how much I screamed and begged). My sister ended up taking my neice and nephew to see The Police. They were around 8 and maybe 5 years old. I vowed that I would never miss another concert just because I was sick (the drama of a 16 year old). This was the Synchronicity tour…you know that one…the last one they have ever…until now.

I remember being in Junior High and buying Zenyatta Mondatta. It was one of the first albums that I ever bought. I listed to that thing over and over again. My sister had bought the earlier albums, so I would borrow them from her. I still have that album in a box in the closet, along with Ghosts in the Machine and Synchronicity. The Police, after all these years, are still one of my favorite bands.ÂÂ

When I heard that The Police were touring again, I was so excited. Here is my chance to check them off of my “To SEE” list! I have seen Sting a few times in concert, but getting to see The Police will take me back to all of thse years ago, when I was supposed to see them. Yeah, I know that sounds corny. If you want to really hear something corny, here goes:

I remember being in an English class in high school reciting “Tea in The Sahara” as a poem for a class assignment! Now that is corny, but I think I got an “A”.

I just found out that they are releasing a new double police cd  with 28 songs and “Tea in the Sahara” is one of the songs included. They have all of the best Police songs on the cds.

  1. […] Well, my husband and I got to go out this weekend! We went to New Orleans to see The Police (see previous post about this). Well, we got to NO a little early so that we could get dinner in the French Quarter. I had purchased a gift certificate to the Oceana Grill from Restaurant.com an was really excited to use it. I had already checked out their menu on the website.  My husband and I don’t make it to New Orleans very often, but when we do go, we try to get a good meal. We usually go there to go to a concert! […]
