Floral Wreath

Filed under: Gift Ideas, decor, Christmas, crafts, Gifts for Her, handmade — Guest Contributor @ 5:28 pm
Why not give something totally different to the one you love this Christmas!  I offer unique products hand stitched by me using the candle wicking and silk ribbon embroidery method.  The  image below is of a pillow; however I can create a pillow, or a wall hanging of your choice.  I can also personalize the image using your favorite color in place of the pink and on the initial.
Unfamiliar with candlewicking?  Candlewicking is a form of surface embroidery that traditionally uses an unbleached cotton thread on a piece of unbleached muslin.  It gets its name from the nature of the thread, which very much resembles the wick used in a candle.  Motifs are created using a variety of knots and satin stitches.  Subject matter is usually taken from nature, flowers, insects, etc.  Other traditional motifs resemble PA Dutch or colonial designs.  Modern designs include colored floss embroidery with the traditional white on white stitching.  – As taken from Wikipedia.com.  The end result?  A beautifully, handmade item to use to decorate your home, to give as a gift, or keepsake that will be treasured for a lifetime.
Candlewicking, for me, started as a 4H project that won me an award.  It has progressed into something I enjoy doing and sharing with others.  The silk ribbon embroidery was something I ran across and loved the look of it.  Because these techniques not as widely known, as they once were you will have an item unlike many others have.  The added personalization only makes this item that much more unique and special.  Additional personalization can be done by changing the lace, of the pillow, to a cording to match the image colors.  It could be framed in a beautiful wood frame or even a frame matching the image colors.  The possibilities are only as limited as your imagination of the completed item.

If you would like this item please email me your name, selection of color and initial, shipping, and Paypal information.

NOTE:  You will be billed upon completion of your item.  It will not be shipped till payment is received.  Thank you!

Love Lavender?

Lavender LoveTM has picked one of the most versatile essential oils and has created a full product line featuring handmade soaps, body scrubs, candles, lip care, and even carpet powder (just to name a few items).

Not only does the company offer a wonderfully diverse line products made with pure lavender essential oils, but the website includes very informative information about the benefits of this essential oil.   Although I already knew that Lavender essential oils had healing properties, and is good for burns, and sore muscles, I did not realize that there is such a thing as culinary lavender that can be used in foods (unlike other lavender which cannot be ingested).Â

After receiving my Lavender LoveTM ) soap, souffle, and body sugar from Heidi Philips (a rep for Lavender LoveTM), I was very excited to try it out. The scent was real lavender, unlike many over the counter products that don’t smell like the real essential oil. Just by the fragrance, I knew it was the real stuff, and not a synthetic scent. Heidi told me that it would be mixed fresh when it is ordered, I thought that that was pretty neat. I figured it would take awhile for it to come in, but it got here rather quickly.

The Lavender Soap ~ Light purple colored, handmade vegetable glycerin soap blended with pure lavender essential oil.  The soap doesn’t produce lots of bubbles, I would assume it is because it doesn’t have detergents in it (which can irritate your skin). I felt clean and soft after I used it. I was even able to shave with in, unlike commercially produced bar soaps.  You have to be careful not to leave it in your water, it melts quickly. You don’t want to leave it sitting in much water either, or it will start to dissolve. This is only because of it being so natural.  Â

Sugar Scrub/Body Polish ~ I also tried the sugar scrub, and When I opened the container, all I saw was firmly packed, brownish colored sugar crystals. The lavender scent was not as noticeable as with the soap or the souffle. I would think that this is because the sugar would dissolve if too much was added to it. I scooped some out, and used a little on my arms (in the tub). I was amazed that I could feel a light scrub and then it just disolved. I wasn’t left with a bunch of crunchies all over my arms. What I had was a nice smooth feeling arm. This scrub is mild enough to be used daily, but you would need something a bit stronger for those rougher spots like your heels (the company has foot care products for this).

Souffle ~ The souffle is a very thick and creamy lotion that is perfect for those more needy spots, like your elbows, knees, and heels. It is a bit too thick for an all over lotion (they do make a lotion more suited for all over). I have to say, I liked the fact that this stuff was not greasy like some products made for these areas. Yes, I felt the oils (Sunflower, Soya Bean, and Jojoba)  in it, but the souffle was not sticky or overly oily feeling. My skin absorbed these nicely, leaving my hands, elbows, and heels feeling much softer.

When I visited the website, I was really amazed at home many different products that Lavender LoveTM offered. The company has been around since 2002, and started out selling the line on eBay! Their prices are really reasonable considering they use such high quality ingredients and make it themselves. What a success story!
